The Campaign

The objective of the Campaign is to develop a proposal to put to the local Council to persuade it to develop a new sports facility that the students feel would benefit the area. The final class presentation could be made to the local Councillor or a representative of the Council. If it were possible to take the class to the Council offices, this would be an added feature of the Investigation. The activity might catch the interest of the local media.

The pack of materials consists of the following:

  • a Teacher's Guide to assist you in getting the most from the materials, and the links to the Programme of Study;
  • a General Briefing Sheet, which all members of the class should receive, which outlines the aims and suggests four 'expert' groups that the class will form;
  • the four 'expert' group sheets - Who decides?, Will the community win or lose if the plans go ahead?, Who pays? and How do you influence the decision?
  • the four sets of Fact Sheets which link to the 'expert' group sheets.

Most of these documents are Word files, but the Fact Sheets are in the form of Acrobat files.
