Introduction
We are very sorry to announce that the DTI has cut funding for the Post 16 Chemistry competition and that we will not be able to run it in 2007. Alternative funders for the competition are being considered, and further updates on whether the competition will take place in 2008 will be on this website.
This is a user-friendly practical competition especially for schools and colleges.
The competition is run as a part of the government's VAM programme. VAM stands for valid analytical measurement. The VAM programme has identified certain principles of good analytical practice. One is that: "There should be regular independent assessment of the technical performance of a laboratory".
The competition is organised jointly by LGC Ltd (formerly Laboratory of the Government Chemist) and the Nuffield Curriculum Centre.
The Chemistry competition is now in its ninth year and a record number of schools have taken part this year.
The name of the winning school for 2006 has been published on this site. See the following page.
For further information about the competition, see also the VAM website.
