Angela Hall, Michael Reiss and Sue AssinderOn the 22nd September, members from Nuffield and the Biosciences Federation, along with teachers and other individuals from the fields of the biological sciences, gathered to celebrate the launch of a new practical website - www.practicalbiology.org. This new website completes the trio which already consists of www.practicalphysics.org and www.practicalchemistry.org, both of which are established and popular sites with teachers and technicians.

This website allows teachers to download tried and tested biology experiments that should work in any school laboratory. The practicals can be used as starting-points for investigations and also for enhancement activities, such as clubs or open day events. It includes the best of current and past practical protocols, together with ideas for interesting new practical work.
Practical projects with links to the revised curriculum for Key Stages 4 and 5 can be easily searched by topic. The activities are presented in a standard format, and include health and safety considerations as well as suggested teaching approaches. The site also includes notes about teaching and learning, and is particularly useful for teachers and technicians who wish to develop their practical craft in biology.
