Where are we at with Citizenship education in our schools? What does the future hold?
This is a second entry today about the new report by Helen Haste from the Nestle Social Research Programme. The report has findings relevant to citizenship education as well as to science education.

The Hansard Society has launched a new web site which it hopes will inspire people with the principle of democracy and educate them as to how our parliament system works. The web site supports a free, public, interactive exhibition in Westminster Hall.

Shaun Woodward, Labour MP for St Helen's South, has just launched a web-log as a way to re-engage with his constituents and the wider public. One of the issues raised on the site concerns education for citizenship in schools. The headline question is whether or not people should be able to vote at 16.

A mini-conference last week explored opportunities for students learning about citizenship across a wide range of school subjects. Organised by the Association for Citizenship Teaching, the meeting considered some of the problems inherent in cross-curricular linking. More positively, it tried to identify ways that subject associations can collaborate and support their teacher members.

The DfES has developed a tool to help you. It asks you to assess your existing Citizenship offering and consider ways of developing it. You can set objectives, timelines that fit in with your online action plan.

A meeting last week at the Development Education Association brought together key people from two national networks. Their aim? - to make global perspectives normal practice in science education.

iCan! is a new web site to promote active citizenzship. The BBC is launching the site in early November. A 'beta' version of the site is already up and running and you can start to use it.

NESTA Futurelab has commissioned and published a literature review exploring the role of ICT in Citizenship education. The full report is available on-line and as a pdf on the NESTA Futurelab web site.
