Classroom-ready resources to support teachers in their teaching and assessment of the key processes of mathematics at key stages 3 and 4 (secondary schools).
These resources are carefully designed to match the National Curriculum specifications for England.
The AMP resources are based on the Graded Assessment in Mathematics (GAIM) materials produced with Nuffield support in the 1980s.
Twenty AMP activities coming
Twenty AMP activities are being piloted in classrooms and will be published on our website with supporting resources ready for national roll-out in autumn 2010.
AMP for teaching and assessment
Activities include:
Mathematical investigations, such as working out how many texts are sent if everyone in a group sends one to all the others
Practical problems, such as designing a table or scheduling the work to be done in a fashion workshop.
Activities offer a wide range of contexts and relate to a broad spectrum of the mathematics curriculum content (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, and so on).
The teachers notes for each activity provide:
guidance on how to run the activity in the classroom
probing questions to help learners progress during the activity
a chart showing progress through the key processes
examples of work from learners.
Bowland Maths for CPD and assessment
At the same time, Bowland Maths is producing
shorter tasks to assess key processes
two CPD modules aimed at helping teachers develop their assessment practices.
Nuffield AMP and Bowland Maths launch autumn 2010
Nuffield AMP and Bowland Maths are launching their materials in tandem as a complete package for teaching and assessing key processes.
The Secondary National Strategy is collaborating with Nuffield and Bowland on dissemination. They will feature both the Nuffield and Bowland project outcomes in materials for subject leader development meetings in autumn 2010.
