Congratulations to our former colleague Peter Campbell who has been awarded the 2010 Bragg Medal by the Institute of Physics. This has been awarded "For his leading role in a wide range of projects that have made a significant impact on the physics curriculum and the teaching of physics."
Peter Campbell is committed to teacher training and the education of young people. He has written and edited resources for science curriculum projects including A-level Advancing Physics (at the Institute of Physics) and Twenty First Century Science (at the Nuffield Foundation, working with colleagues at the University of York).
Following his retirement from Nuffield, Peter has been working part-time at the Science Learning Centre London, training teachers to teach physics.
Bragg medal
The Bragg medal and prize was instituted by the Council of the Institute of Physics and the Physical Society in 1965. The medal is named after Sir Lawrence Bragg, who had an international reputation for the popularization and teaching of physics. Bragg is most famous for his discoveries about the diffraction of X-rays by crystals. For this Bragg won a Nobel prize in 1915 at the age of 25.
